In April, 2020, New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued Executive Order No. 202.20, authorizing the New York City Clerk’s office to enable couples to apply for a marriage license online and have a virtual wedding ceremony using video conference technology with a legally appointed and licensed marriage officiant. The couple, witness, and marriage officiant must all be located in New York State.
In May 2020, the New York City Clerk’s office launched Project Cupid allowing couples to apply for a New York marriage license online. Following application, the New York City Clerk will issue couples an appointment date to review their information, and then 24hrs later the couple may have a video conference virtual wedding.
